SilverClay Magnetic tumbler
Finally, here is a magnetic polishing tumbler at a price affordable to small business and home users. The kit consists of a magnetic oscillator base, a separate acrylic drum, a plastic lid, a pack of tiny stainless steel pins, and a spare fuse. It's robustly made, easy to use, and, best of all, it does its work whilst you do something else.
The whole unit measures 103mm x 103mm x 230mm, and weighs just over 2Kg. The drum is the size of a coffee mug, suitable for up to 40gms of silver: about 3-7 average rings. The CE-marked fully-enclosed magnetic drive is rated at 230V 6W, so plugs into a regular mains socket, and uses less power than a fridge bulb.
Compared to a conventional rotary tumbler, magnetic polishers are faster, polishes intricate textures and shapes better, easier to fill, quicker to empty, and simpler to clean. However, a rotary tumbler gives smooth surfaces a better polish and a higher shine. The magnetic polisher will not give the pieces a mirror-like shine.

Jewellery rotary tumbler
Small, easy to use, high quality and great value for money rotary tumbler polisher. This highly recommended tumbler comes with a plastic 2lb (about 700gm) barrel with vanes. Vanes act like paddles on the inside of the barrel, ideal for jewellery tumbling as they help to move the jewellery around and polish it faster.
The whole unit measures 143mm x 122mm x 205mm. The CE-marked fully-enclosed motor is rated at 230V/15W, so you can use a regular mains socket. It comes with a 1.8 metre cable, ending in a UK plug. Since the tumbler uses about as much power as a fridge bulb, the cost of using it is only a few pence a day.
The plastic barrel revolves on two rollers and there is a roller end-stop which stops the barrel from falling off the rollers. The plastic barrel has a push-fit seal, if it is difficult to get off and on, simply put it in warm water to soften it. The tumbler has plastic feet to stop it from scratching or moving around.
As you can see in the photo, the barrel included uses the full width of the tumbler body, so you can't use a larger or two smaller barrels. This size barrel is often called a half-size, or 2lb barrel.
To tumble silver you will also need stainless steel shot and barrelling compound. The barrelling compound helps keep your stainless steel shot rust free. The 100% stainless steel shot is made up from different shapes, balls, planetoids, and large pins. To keep the shot clean and rust free, simply rinse after use and keep completely immersed in water with a little barreling compound.

Junior rotary tumbler for jewellery
Another small, easy to use, rotary tumbler polisher. This is also a high quality tumbler which should last you for a long time. This is the easiest way to give your silver pieces a beautiful polished sparkly shine. Just put them in the tumbler together with water and steel shot, and leave for anything between 1-6 hours, and they'll come out super shiny.
For a complete kit, suitable for tumbling silver, you need to choose the body, a barrel, steel shot and barelling compound.
You can fit two 1.5lb barrels or one 3lb barrels on the tumbler, choose the combination you like. Plastic is much easier to keep clean, whilst rubber is easier to open and close, and are quieter.

Stainless Steel Shot - 1kg
Pack of mixed shot shapes: balls, planetoids, and large pins. The shapes are 100% stainless steel. However, to best care for your shot and to keep it clean and rust free, simply rinse after use and keep completely immersed in water with a little barreling compound.
This is one whole kilo of shot, so enough for a 3lb barrel. Having said this, I use 1kg in the 1,5lb barrel as I mainly tumble smaller pieces, like rings and pendants. Ideally the barrel should be 50-75% when jewellery, shot, and water is added, to get the best polishing action.

Barrelling compound - 400gm
Use the barrelling compound to help keep your stainless steel and carbon steel shot rust free and in good shape. Also helps to bring out a nice shine in your silver. About a tablespoon is enough for the 3lb barrel. Sometimes called burnishing soap.
