Resin is a great way to add colour or precious keepsakes to your metal clay jewellery! And used on its own it offers you an easy and affordable way of creating large jewellery designs.
When cured resin has a hard, smooth, shiny finish. It can be used with or without pigment colorants. It can be used to embed stones, glitter and other decorative elements.
Use our 2-part moulding compound to create moulds which you can then cure your resin in - excellent for making sparkling three-dimensional pieces, or maybe resin cabochons to mount in your silver... The resin will separate from the mould without any need for release agents.
Resin comes in many different versions. On this page we've tried to introduce the one we think are most suitable for jewellery making applications.
Casting resin is used for casting into deeper moulds. Ideal for large bangles, paper weigths and similar big items. It comes in two parts which needs mixing together.
Pouring (or coating) resin is designed to be used in thin layers. To coat images, fill shallow bezels, or casting into shallow moulds. It comes in two parts which needs mixing together.
UV resin cures in minutes with the help of UV light. You can fill cavities or make a thick domed top layer. It comes in gel viscosity but can be thinned with gentle heat. It needs to be cured with UV light. Compared to normal resin, there is less waste as you don't have to mix two components, and no more worrying about exact measurements! The UV resin doesn't smell, it is non-yellowing and self-levelling. So all-in-all, very easy to use!

UV Resin Gel - Crystal
This fabulous one-part crystal clear resin is so easy to use! With the help of UV light the P2 Jelly cures in minutes, rather than hours. One of the best things about this thick crystal clear gel, is that it comes in a tube (similar to oil paint tubes), making it easy to apply - no more messing about with scooping thick gooey gel out of pots with sticky spatulas!
You can apply the gel from the tube directly onto your piece, as it is quite thick it is easy to handle. The thick viscosity of the gel allows you to create slightly domes effects easily. If you want, you can warm the P2 Jelly tube slightly to make runnier.
The gel cures rock hard in about minutes with a UV light. The time of curing varies on the UV light and if you add colour to the resin. In a high wattage UV light box clear gel cures in 3-5 minutes, in smaller boxes it can be around 10-20 minutes - a lot faster than most resins! It will not leave a sticky surface, and doesn't need any polishing, unless you want to reshape it. Make sure your UV light reach all the corners of the gel - add, and cure, in thin layers, no thicker than approx. 2mm at a time. Angle your piece differently throughout the different curing sessions to to help cure all of the resin.
Can be coloured using any of the colours below. The tube contains 15g.

This two-component, durable, resilient material requires no polishing to produce a high gloss. One coat is all that is usually required for a deep attractive finish, however, two or more coats maybe applied one over the other by simply wiping the surface with a clean cloth and alcohol prior to recoating.Envirotex Lite is acid & solvent free and can be used safely over color copies, newspaper clippings, paint and ink surfaces as well.

EasyCast Clear Casting Resin - SMALL
EasyCast Clear Casting Resin hardens to a high-gloss finish, and cures in about 36-72 hours. It is used for projects that are larger, like large pendants, bangles, paper weights, and door knobs. This resin got 4 out of 5 stars when tested in Making Jewellery, Oct 2009!
EasyCast is a two-component clear casting epoxy. Epoxy resins provide stronger adhesion, less shrinkage and tougher water resistance when cured than polyester resins. It's solvent free and low odor. It can easily be colored, tinted or combined with fillers to create faux granite or metallic castings, and also used to trap items like photos, confetti, sea shells, glass frit, sweets - your imagination is the limit. These characteristics make it ideal for casting and embedding up to 6 ounces (maximum) per pour. Due to heat build up and discoloration, do not attempt to cast more than 6 ounces at one time.
Mix with colourants or Pearl-ex Pigments to add beautiful colours. Glitter, Rhinestones, etc can be added to create gorgeous effects.
Choose between two sizes; Small (236ml/8oz), or Large (437ml/16oz).

UV Resin Gel Colourants
Dinky little tubes with gorgeous colours for the UV resin. Drip out ONE drop of colour on your mixing surface, pick up a small quantity of colour on a toothpick (or pick it up on the toothpick straight from the bottle) and transfer this to your gel. If you add the entire drop of colour to your gel it will definitely be too much, it is better to add more in small quantities. It is handy to use a palette knife to mix the colour into the gel, using the wide flat side to break down the pigment and blending them into the gel.
Please note that the gel takes longer to cure if you add colour! Very deep colours (gel with a lot of colour added) might actually not cure at all. If you've added colour, let the resin cure in the UV light for about 5 minutes, or more, if needed.
I like to start with a thin layer of clear gel, which I cure before I add the coloured layer. The clear gel will bond better with the silver, so will create a strong bond. You can also try adding a clear layer on top of your coloured gel - this gives your colour a beautiful depth.
Each bottle contains 15ml - as you usually use less than a drop per application, this bottle should cover more jewellery than you can count!

FLEXIBLE RESIN CASTING MOULDS
These fabulous jewellery making resin moulds are lovely to work with. They're very flexible casting moulds don't require mold release spray, simply flex carefully and push on the back to release the fully hardened resin shape.
They should last for many mold castings. The bangle mould has a slightly shorter life, as it takes quite a lot of flexing when you remove the bangle from the mold, but with a little care it should still survive for about 5-10 moulds.

UV LIGHT BOXES
The UV resin requires a high dose of concentrated UV light to cure, it will not cure in normal sunlight. The UV box named 'UV Light Box' below has been designed especially for jewellery making with UV resin and its quality is outstanding.
You can also cure the resin with a Nail Art UV Box, like the Daylight UV boxes below, but it will require longer curing times. Also, leave the resin to sit (out of the UV box) for a couple of minutes after curing, as sometimes the heat from the Nail UV Box seems to inhibit the curing. All Nail Art Boxes aren't made to the same specifications, so it is hard to give any time recommendations. The best thing is to simply keep trying until you find the time needed.

UV Light Box
The Rolls Royce of light boxes. Straight from Japan, this is a light box for the serious UV resin artist. And it is huge inside, so you can fit loads - or large - projects in wihtout any problems. I love this box and use it in my studio, excellent for curing lots of student's pieces in one go.
The box has a front opening door with a safety switch, which turns off the lights when the door is opened. The door is the full width of the box, allowing you to access and see the entire curing area - making it is easy to work with large or delicate pieces.
At the top of the front hand right side, there is a dial to set the timer, if you like the lights to turn off automatically after the time you choose, anything between 1-10 minutes. You can turn off this function using the switch next to the dial. The large red switch is the on/off switch.
This light box comes with three high-quality Philips 8W UV lights, including two black lights and one germicidal (used for disinfection) bulb - all to give you the fastest curing. The germicidal tube is the one that makes this light box outstanding. The tubes are easy to buy in the UK so you'll have no problems if they need replacing. I recommend you cover the bottom of the box with crinkled up aluminium foil, this helps to reflect light from all angles, which speeds up curing.
Please note, this comes with a Japanese plug, and is wired for 110V, so you'll need a converter. You can get a good quality converter, like this one here for about £10-15. You simply stick the Japanese plug into the converter, which comes with a UK plug, which goes straight into your normal main socket.
External dimensions 330(W)x180(D)x220(H)mm. Weight 5kg. Total 24W (3 x 8W), lamp amperage 0.51A.
This is shipped to order, so delivery time is about 2 weeks, but can be up to 4 weeks. Call us for a confirmed delivery date. NOTE: UV Boxes generates very strong ultraviolet light, it is important to not look into the light as it may damage your eyes. This UV box comes with a safety switch, which turns the light off when the door is opened.

UV Light Box - Daylight™ Professional
A high-quality lamp from the Daylight™ company. This is a professional UV light unit, primarily sold as a nail gel curing light. When I researched UV light I found one that looked very similar to this eBay, for a much lower price. Sadly it failed half-way through my first curing, and I could never get hold of the seller. It was an expensive lesson.
The light has a large front opening slot, where you simply slide in your pieces. The bottom and sides are covered in reflective material to help with even curing. However, I still think that creating a little "nest" of crinkled up aluminium foil at the bottom of the unit, helps to reflect light from all angles, which speeds up curing.
The box has two timer settings, 90 and 150 seconds. The curing time depends on the thickness of the resin. As a guide I would use about 300 seconds for clear gel, and probably at least double if I've added colour. Leave the piece to set after curing for a couple of minutes. If the light gets hot it can inhibit curing, so turn the light off and let it cool off in between curings.
This UV lamp comes with 4 high-quality 9W UV light tubes. Simple and clean design, with a white cover. Comes with a 12 month manufacturers guarantee. New UV tubes are easy to get in the UK. NOTE: UV Boxes generates very strong ultraviolet light, it is important to not look into the light as it may damage your eyes.
Total 36W. 220/240V with UK plug.
